The mystery community - authors, readers, viewers, listeners - are joined today in mourning the passing this past Sunday of William Link, a near-legendary voice in that community. Along with his late writing partner, Richard Levinson, Link's contributions to the mystery field were legion: co-creator of Lieutenant Columbo, Murder She Wrote, Mannix and Ellery Queen on television, episodes for countless mystery shows and other dramas, and much more. I met him a couple of times at major mystery conferences. He was a gentleman who will be - and already is - sorely missed. He was 87 years old.
There's a lot more to say, and J. Kingston Pierce, the creator and editor of The Rap Sheet newsletter and blog, says it remarkably well in this obituary. If you don't know more about William Link and his contributions to the genre, please don't miss Pierce's reflections here.
