Regular visitors to this site know that I travel frequently to "mystery conferences," those annual (more or less) gatherings of mystery authors and their fans. There are a lot of reasons why these conferences are so enjoyable: writers and fans get to meet each other, there are discussions (serious and not-so-serious) about aspects of mystery-reading and mystery-writing, the hotel bars are generally persuaded to stay open later at night to facilitate conversation and consumption, etc.
That being said, here's a link to a new article, published in the past week by The Writer magazine, focusing on one of my favorite conferences,* Left Coast Crime. Much of what is said about LCC, as it's known, could be applied as well to any big (Bouchercon), mid-sized (Left Coast Crime, Malice Domestic) or even small (Deadly Ink) conference that I attend each year, with a few exceptions when schedule conflicts make my attendance impossible. If you wonder if this kind of activity is for you, this article may give you new reasons to try to make room for a conference on your 2019 schedule. Above all else, they are fun.
Thanks to Lucinda Surber (of Stop You're Killing Me) for catching it - and, yes, that's Leslie and me among the masked marauders...
* - full disclosure: Leslie and I share a seat (stand?) on the LCC Standing Committee which oversees the conference.
