Just back from this year's Deadly Ink conference, held in Rockaway, New Jersey.
the opening panel for this year's Deadly Ink conference: from the left, R. G. Belsky, Barbara Early, Vicki Delany, Linda Rawlins, Roberta Rogow, MaryJane Maffini, and Jeff Markowitz
It was a smaller gathering than usual this year, which simply made it even easier than usual to strike up conversations with new friends and authors and to rekindle friendships with the people we've met before. As I've said before, it's a great place for people who may never have attended a conference of mystery readers and writers in the past to learn what goes on at these gatherings.
Deadly Ink has its own award, too - the David Award, named for David Sasher, Sr., awarded for the best mystery published in 2016. The winner and the other nominees this year:
- ***Yom Killer, by Ilene Schneider***
- Blonde Ice, by R. G. Belsky
- Written Off, by E. J. Copperman
- Death of a Toy Soldier, by Barbara Early
- Seconds to Live, by Melinda Leigh
Congratulations to all of the nominees!
