The organizers of Bouchercon 2016, the world's oldest and largest mystery conference, have announced the nominees for the prestigious Anthony Awards for 2016, awarded to books published in 2015. You can find a complete list of the nominees here. The awards, and the conference, are named for mystery and science fiction author and critic Anthony Boucher. The first Bouchercon was held in 1970, two years after Boucher's death, and it has been held every year since.
2016's Bouchercon will be held in New Orleans from Septenber 15th through September 18th. Well over a thousand guests - perhaps as many as 1500 - will be on hand, including hundreds of mystery authors, to mingle with fans, share a few lots of well-chilled beverages, attend fascinating panels and other special events, eat remarkably well in one of the finest American cities in which to dine, and generally have a blast. In the course of the partying, the Anthony Awards will be presented at ceremonies on the Friday night of the conference.
If you've never attended a Bouchercon, let me encourage you to consider coming to New Orleans and seeing for yourself why so many people make the effort to gather, mingle, and talk mysteries. I'll be there. Will you?
In any case, congratulations are in order for all of the nominees for the Anthonys.
