We've seen too many depressing news stories in the past year or so about stalwart independent mystery bookstores forced to close their doors (to say nothing about Borders). So it was refreshing when a friend of mine up New England way sent me this story from the Portland Press Herald up in Maine about a fairly new indie bookstore in Kennebunk, Maine called Mainely Murders.
Paula Keeney and her partner, Ann Whetstone, established the store (after talking about it for 35 years), and, I'm happy to say, one of their specialties appears to be Golden Age mysteries.
It's been a long time since I've traveled that far north. This may be a good reason to plan a visit.
LOVE, love, love the name of the store: Mainely Murder. SO clever. :) If I were traveling up that way I'd certainly stop in. I love Kennebunkport.

Looks like an interesting store, Yvette. I didn't know there was a Kennebunk - I guess I should have inferred it from the existence of KennebunkPORT, which is indeed a lovely place. Looks like Kennebunk is on the other side of Interstate 95.
