I assume that most visitors to this blog also love mysteries - otherwise why would you be here? So be advised that the latest issue of Sally Powers's bimonthly "I Love a Mystery" newsletter has been posted for your enjoyment. It has reviews of a great many newly-published and/or re-released mysteries in just about every mystery genre.
And, yes, yours truly has provided a couple of new reviews in ILAM's "Classic Corner." There's always room for more visitors in my corner of the world...
Enjoy!
Les, I've just read (over at I LOVE A MYSTERY) your review of a book I'd never heard of, much less read. Although I had heard that Gore Vidal wrote some myseries under the name of Edgar Box (strange name) I'd never gone any further in hunting them up. Your review intrigued me. I've now added this to my list. But since I have 17 books overdue (!!) at the library, who knows if I'll be allowed within their doors any time soon. HA! This is what happens when you're as disorganized as I am. When I realized how the fees are adding up, I let out a screech. Oh well, can't do anything until Tuesday so I might as well relax. Yeah, right. :)

Yvette, all three of the "Edgar Box" mysteries have been reissued by the publisher. Vidal says he was trying to come up with a name. He decided on "Edgar" for Edgar Wallace (although, from the story he tells, it sounds more as if he meant Edgar Allen Poe!). He was attending a party honoring a couple named Box. At the end of the party, he turned to his publisher and said, "He is born, Edgar Box." and he observes, "The angels serenaded us from their radiant paradise." That's from Vidal's introduction to the new edition.
