I just received an email from the Mystery Bookstore in Los Angeles with word that they will be closing their doors permanently at the end of January. It's bad news, of course, and probably not surprising, given the nature of the book business today. But it is painful to see another indie bookstore going under - especially one that specializes in mysteries.
I just checked out their website - the news isn't posted there; in fact, they still list events that had been planned for February. But the email says that January 31 will be their last day. If you're in the LA area, they're running a final sale and you may want to stop by their store in Westwood to take advantage of their pricing and to say goodbye.
It's enough to break one's heart.
