Here's an exciting challenge from Bev Hankins, who blogs over at My Reader's Block. She is sponsoring a reading challenge, to run all of next year, to encourage people to read vintage mysteries. By "vintage," she means those written before 1960 - and, as regular visitors here know, most of the mysteries you'll see reviewed and discussed on Classic Mysteries fit into that category.
I'm delighted. While I enjoy today's mystery writers, I have a fondness for the authors I grew up with and with the traditional mystery form. If you choose to join her challenge - and I encourage you to do so - you'll have the opportunity to read some of the best mysteries ever written. Please make plans to sign up at her blog - and join the fun in the new year. I'll be participating at the "Take 'Em to Trial" level, meaning that I'll be reading at least 16 such books in the new year - probably a lot more than that, too. She has a suggested authors' list, and you can find most of the authors represented here on the backlist page for past reviews on Classic Mysteries.
If you have suggestions for other authors, why not post both here and on the Reader's Block blog, to let us both know?
Welcome to the Vintage Mystery Challenge! It's been great to see all the people who are interested in reading the classic mysteries. Have a great time!
