Responding to my recent post on S. S. Van Dine's 20 Rules for Writing Detective Stories, a friend in the Golden Age of Detection group over on Facebook points out another set of rules written by Fr. Ronald Knox, the author of "The Viaduct Murder." The rules are fairly similar - and, as always, I can think of fine mysteries that violate just about all of them - but they're fun reading. You'll find them at this link, where you'll also find G. K Chesterton's membership oath for the British Detection Club and a variety of other proposed rules - including the Van Dine list. Enjoy!
