The question for the day is WWSD - What Would Sherlock Do? That, at least, is the question posed by the golf foursome and amateur detectives in "The Viaduct Murder," a classic mystery by Ronald A. Knox, first published in 1925. It's the subject of this week's review on the Classic Mysteries podcast.
On the other hand, what else could these four men do? They have stumbled across the body of a fellow club member on the golf course, and they are convinced that it is murder - even though the police and the official inquest appear ready to settle for a verdict of suicide. Outrageous - so they set out to figure out how Sherlock Holmes might have approached the problem.
It's all done in good humor, and the book is quite funny in places - and, at the same time, the author plays fairly with the audience, while throwing in a fair number of surprising twists. Click on the link above for the full review.
