In the middle of World War II, the FBI decides to use an ace private eye to try to persuade an old prospector to reveal the site of what could be an important source of ore for the war effort. Unfortunately for them, they pick Doan - and his Great Dane sidekick Carstairs.
You don't know Doan and Carstairs? You should. Especially Carstairs, the senior partner, and a dog who really put the "Great" in "Great Dane." The book is Norbert Davis's "Sally's in the Alley," a book which manages to combine the hard-boiled Prive Eye school with screwball humor. It's the subject of this week's podcast - give it a listen. Doan may be no great hero as a detective, but Carstairs is a different story.
