News via The Guardian newspaper of plans - sanctioned by the estate of Agatha Christie! - for a new Hercule Poirot novel - a "continuation" with a new author, Sophie Hannah.
Color me skeptical. If you listen closely, you can hear my mind boggling.
I'm not much of a fan of "continuations" of popular series after the death of the original author. There are exceptions - I do think that Robert Goldsborough's Archie Meets Nero Wolfe found a unique way to recreate the characters at a believable time in their lives and careers when odd things in their characters, inserted by a new author, could be explained away. It wasn't Rex Stout, but it was somewhat credible.
But a new Poirot? I'm going to have to be convinced. What's your take?
Apparently, we should expect this in a year's time. We'll see.
