I have been hearing from friends, via email and Facebook, who are devoted fans of Georges Simenon and his creation, Commissaire Jules Maigret. Most have read more of his stories than I have - he was featured in some 75 novels and a couple dozen short stories; one friend claims to have read most of those books in the original French.
I have reviewed one other Maigret on Classic Mysteries, and you can listen to that review of "Maigret and the Wine Merchant" here. A surprising number are still in print in English, and your favorite mystery book dealer may have a fair number of now out-of-print Simenons on hand. Amazon and its booksellers have a great many of them as well, which you may want to check out (I get a few cents if you buy through these links). They really are excellent, both as police procedurals from pre-DNA-evidence days and as psychological mysteries.
